Nats aim for sweep of Braves in DC
Baseball Betting Lines
04/22/2009 -
(Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Washington Nationals will try to continue their sudden
surge this evening, as they aim for a sweep of a three-game series with the
Atlanta Braves at Nationals Park.
The Nationals began the season just 1-10, a start that included getting swept
by the Braves in Atlanta from April 10-12, but have ripped off back-to-back
wins for the first time this year. They can sweep a three-game set from the
Braves for the first time since doing so at home last season from August
29-31.
In fact, Washington has won nine of its last 11 at home versus Atlanta.
The Nats posted a 4-3 win in Tuesday night's meeting. Austin Kearns tripled in
the tying run in the sixth inning and Josh Willingham later plated the go-
ahead run in the frame. Adam Dunn belted a solo homer in the victory.
Shairon Martis hurled six innings to get the win, allowing three runs (2
earned) on six hits and four walks, giving him two of Washington's three wins.
Joel Hanrahan had two blown saves last week but recorded his second save in as
many nights.
John Lannan has yet to post a win for the Nationals this year, but came very
close last time out. He faced Florida on Friday and held the club to a run on
three hits over 6 1/3 innings, striking out eight in a no-decision. Hanrahan
was charged with a blown save in what ended up being a 3-2 setback.
The left-handed Lannan faced the Braves on April 11 and yielded four runs on
nine hits and three walks over six innings. He suffered the loss and fell to
2-2 with a 4.30 earned run average in four games versus the Braves.
He struggled against Kelly Johnson in that matchup, as Atlanta's second
baseman had three hits, including a home run, and three RBI. Chipper Jones
also drove in a run off Lannan.
Jair Jurrjens will start for the Braves and his best outing of the season last
time out also ended begin his first loss of 2009. The right-hander won his
first two starts and then faced the Pirates on Friday, holding them to just a
run on four hits over 6 2/3 innings. He also struck out seven, but suffered a
3-0 loss.
Jurrjens defeated Washington on April 12, allowing four runs (3 earned) on
five hits and five walks over 5 1/3 frames. Dunn drew two of those walks and
Elijah Dukes drove in a pair of runs off Jurrjens.
The 23-year-old is 2-1 with a 3.94 ERA in five career starts versus the Nats.
Kenshin Kawakami (1-2) suffered the loss on Tuesday, lasting five-plus innings
and allowing four runs -- two earned -- on seven hits. Casey Kotchman had two
hits and an RBI for the Braves, who have lost seven of eight.
Brian McCann returned to the lineup after being sidelined for two games with
blurred vision. He visited an eye doctor on Tuesday and was fitted for a
contact lens. It appears to have worked, as McCann went 0-for-2 but drew a
pair of walks and scored a run.

Stanley Cup betting
New York, NY – October 3, 2007 – The dress rehearsal is over! The NHL preseason has ended and now that fans have had a glimpse of what is to come it is time to hit the book! Stanley Cup odds are live at MySportsbook.com, the world’s largest online sportsbook and casino.
The Ottawa Senators and Detroit Red Wings remain on top of the odds charts after an impressive start in the preseason. Betting lines opened for both teams at 6-1 in June. Since then the Sens have fallen to 7-1 and the Red Wings are now caught in a pack including the defending champion Carolina Hurricanes, the San Jose Sharks and the Anaheim Ducks, all at 10-1.
MySportsbook.com has also posted props on each team’s point total for the regular season. The Senators lead the charge at 108.5 followed by the Ducks at 106.5. Detroit will attempt a repeat for the prize as the Red Wings are deadlocked with the Predators at 104.5 a piece. The temporary loss of highly touted rookie Evgeni Malkin puts a lot of pressure on the stick of assistant captain Sidney Crosby - his lowly Pittsburgh Penguins are listed at 71.5.
Even if bettors are not brave enough to put their money on the underdog, an early bet on the favorites at sportsbook.com tends to produce bigger payouts than a mid-season wager. Placing a $1,000 bet last summer on the Detroit Red Wings or Ottawa Senators would have paid out to $8,000 and $10,000 respectively, opposed to a $2,500 or $3,000 payout at the beginning of the playoffs.

Marlins could start season without No. 2 starter Johnson
JUPITER, Fla. -- The Foorida Marlins are preparing for the likelihood that right-hander
Josh Johnson won't be ready when the season starts April 2.
Grapefruit League action starts Wednesday, but Johnson, penciled in as the No. 2 starter, hasn't even thrown off a mound at full speed since September. He's experienced some soreness in his right forearm.
MySportsbook.com have the Marlins listed with baseball betting lines at +800 to win the NL East this season .
''You guys know the math. If he's not on the hill then he becomes an opening day roster issue,'' manager Fredi Gonzalez said Saturday. ''We're borderline now.''
Johnson, who finished 12-7 with a 3.10 ERA in 2007, was supposed to throw on flat ground Saturday. That was canceled when he woke up with pain.
He played catch on Wednesday with no pain but felt discomfort in a throwing session on Thursday. He's expected to try again Sunday.
''Like we always said from the very beginning, we're going to take it easy on him,'' Gonzalez said. ''He didn't feel right, so we shut him down. We're going to take it back to step one and see where we're at.''
Among the candidates to take Johnson's spot in the rotation are left-hander Chris George and right-handers Yusmeiro Petit and Jose Garcia.
Right-hander Sergio Mitre, who missed most of last season with arm and shoulder problems, also is behind.
With Johnson's status doubtful, Gonzalez said right-hander Ricky Nolasco will stay in the rotation and no longer will be considered a candidate for closer.
